POCKET DESIGN LAB

“Why do women’s pants have fake pockets?”

This question marked the beginning of my journey into the world of garment construction. Growing up in a rural Midwestern town, I realized how limited clothing options influenced my mood and expression. Seeking to address these limitations, I taught myself how to sew, aiming to create functional and trend-right garments.

In my "Pocket Design Lab," I have delved into the aesthetics of sportcore, gorpcore, and workwear. This space became my playground for designing and constructing garments with practical, usable pockets and other essential features, resulting in 1 to 1 pieces tailored to real needs and personal expression.

“trash collection”

The "Trash Collection" captures Michigan's transition from winter to spring with six distinctive garments. Inspired by the region's unpredictable weather—characterized by gray skies, sleet, and slush—each piece is a direct response to the harshness of these elements. These technical garments are crafted for resilience and functionality, providing a solution to the practical challenges of our seasonal shift.

“Technical Bonnet”

This conceptual project, created in collaboration with LA-based artist Katie Mann, offers a contemporary interpretation of the traditional bonnet. Our goal was to explore a modern approach to a historically feminine silhouette, merging historical form with innovative materials.

The bonnets were crafted using outdoor-focused fabrics like lightweight, UV-protective, and water-repellent ripstop nylon. This material choice not only updates the classic bonnet for modern use but also infuses it with practical, performance-oriented features, blending fashion with functionality.
